We offer consultancy support to help organisations prepare and implement your travel plan. Our aim is to provide you with the most effective solutions to enable you to implement your travel plan in your organisation, either by guidance or by direct delivery.

What is a travel plan?

This is a strategy for managing the travel generated by your organisation, with the aim of reducing its environmental impact. Travel plans typically combine measures to support walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing. These are reinforced with promotion and incentives and by the management of workplace parking.

Why does my organisation need a travel plan?

Increasingly, travel plans are a condition of planning applications and required by your local authority. They are a useful way of demonstrating your commitment to improving your environmental performance, either under an environmental policy, the IS014001 environmental management standard, or your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy.

What is the Choose Cycling Personal Travel Planning service?

Personal Travel Planning (PTP) is an approach that seeks to overcome habitual use of the car by delivering targeted information directly to travelers to help them make sustainable travel choices. PTP schemes, pioneered by TravelSmart, have been run around the country in the last few years and have been extremely successful in encouraging people to reduce their car use.

In 2007, we ran a pilot scheme in partnership with several of Derby’s large employers to deliver a PTP service to their staff. The scheme had all the hallmarks of the usual personal travel planning - we consulted with individuals about their regular journeys and provided them with personalised information on Green travel. However, we added our own stamp by also offering specialist help and advice with cycling. If a individual expressed a wish to cycle one of their regular journeys, we matched them with a local cycle trainer who met with them, gave them advice on cycling and a comprehensive information pack and cycled one of their regular routes with them.

This approach was extremely successful. After the PTP consultation, the participants chose to reduce their car use by up to 86% (by 26% on average).
