Surveys and Site Audits
Gathering Information
When embarking on a Travel Plan, one of the first things you need to do is to gather information about the travel habits of those travelling to your site, the current facilities at your site and the local green travel opportunities, so that you can decide which travel plan measures are likely to be most effective.
The two most practical ways of doing this are through a staff travel survey and a site audit.
A good staff travel survey will ask staff questions about where they live, how they currently travel to work, and what will encourage them to use their car less. There are two examples of general and cycling specific surveys attached to the bottom of the page.
Site audits are an effective method of establishing the state of your current facilities and assessing whether any improvements are required. Audits usually consist of a questionnaire to site managers and a visit to the site (s) to investigate:
The results are put in a Site Audit Report and recommendations made as to how the site can be improved to encourage staff and customers to walk, cycle or use public transport.
