Active Travel
A healthier way to work...
Encouraging staff to actively travel to work is one of the best ways to help improve the health of the workplace.
All forms of green travel can have health benefits - cycling, walking, running and even using public transport (as it is usually necessary to walk or cycle to the nearest bus stop or train station). Actively travelling to work is one of the easiest ways of incorporating the recommended 30 minutes of exercise into daily life.
Some ideas we have used in the past with organisations to promote active travel include:
Marketing campaigns
An intranet and email campaign to all staff emphasising the health benefits of actively travelling to work.
Healthy-living Roadshows
Roadshows in the workplace with stalls, with local walking and cycling maps, public transport information, bike tryouts etc, and events such as walks, bike rides and active travel challenges.
Cycle Challenges
Challenging your staff to cycle to work at least 2 days a week for a month, and offering a support package of free bike checks, bike loans and cycle confidence training.
