Travel Plans
What is a Travel Plan?
A Travel Plan is a strategy for managing the travel generated by your organisation. Travel Plans typically combine measures to support walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing. These are reinforced with incentives and by the management of workplace parking.
What are the benefits of a Travel Plan?
Organisations
Organisations will benefit by solving parking and congestion problems on and around site; saving money on maintaining parking spaces; cutting mileage costs on business travel; reducing costs of running a fleet; improving staff health and reducing absenteeism; and improving their image with both customers and the community.
Staff
Staff will benefit by reducing the cost of travel; reducing journey times to work; and by building healthy, less stressful means of transport into their everyday lives.
How do you start a Travel Plan?
Get buy-in from management and staff, allocate staff time to coordinate the plan, and set up a budget
Consider a staff travel survey, site audit, staff discussion, audit of company policy, and a map of where staff live.
A 15% reduction in car driver trips over 3 years is a typical target
Consider restricted parking, charging for parking, or cash-out incentives not to drive to work
