Volunteering with Choose Cycling

Active Travel Volunteer needed!

April to August 2010
1 day a week is required as a minimum. Ideally 2 days.

Based in Milford, near Belper.

Between April and August 2010, you will help Choose Cycling run their exciting new Active Travel Project. This project will encourage employees at workplaces in Erewash, Derbyshire to regularly walk and cycle to work. The volunteer will be needed in particular to help run an Active Travel Challenge between 19th June and 31st August 2010.

Duties will include:
- helping maintain the Active Travel Challenge website
- help with promoting Active Travel to Erewash businesses by a range of methods, including engaging local partners to promote the Challenge, press releases, regular mailouts and helping on stalls at workplace and community events in Erewash
- recruiting Cycling Champions in Erewash (from cycling groups/ supportive organisations)to promote the Challenge in businesses and act as team coordinators
- providing support for businesses who sign up to the Challenge by regular contact during and after the challenge, including delivering prizes.
- drafting a monthly Active Travel e-newsletter from April 2010.
- keeping Choose Cycling webpages up-to-date
- help with routine administrative tasks, such as answering calls, emails, filing, sending out mailings etc
- attending Choose Cycling and other relevant community meetings

This is an exciting, varied role, which will be great experience for the right person. You will need good literacy and communication skills, have a basic proficiency in word processing, email and the internet, be motivated, organised, flexible and enthusiastic, and, ideally, have a passion for promoting walking and cycling.

As a community group with no core funding, we need volunteers to help make our community work a success.

All volunteers will gain valuable work experience, and learn how a dynamic, independent social enterprise works. All work is supervised and expenses paid. You will be given full training and support within a friendly, ethical team and gain a reference at the end.
