The United Nations Environmental Programme recognises that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era and is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them. Over the weekend of 7/8th June 2008, you could join cyclists in various cities around the UK in a "Bare as you dare" bike ride. Mooted as "the most exhilarating cycling experience since taking off your wheels", it also has a serious message:

"We face automobile traffic with our naked bodies as the best way of defending our dignity and exposing the unique danges faced by cyclists and pedestrians".

Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June 2008 is the CTC "5 miles to Fabulous" weekend of Bike Rides aimed at women.

We propose a 10 mile bike ride from Little Eaton to Denby Pottery for lunch and then back again. The ride is down either quiet lanes or an on-road cycle path to Denby. The cafe at Denby Pottery is renown for its good food, mainly locally sourced in Derbyshire. The ride is led by qualified cycle trainers and we can lend you a bike if you don't have one.

A great opportunity to test the bike out for the summer and meet other lady cyclists!

Monday 9th June 2008 is National Liftshare day, which aims to raise the profile of carsharing and encourage and enable more people give it a try.

30th June - 4th July 2008

Do you remember being free range as a kid? Playing outside and getting around under your own steam? It seems kids today are missing out and the huge amount of traffic on our streets is partly to blame.

It doesn’t have to be like this. By taking small steps together we can make a big change happen. All we’re asking is that you swap just one car trip between 30 June - 5 July and walk, cycle, use public transport or car-share instead. Amazingly, if we all drove just one less journey a week, together we’d reduce car traffic by 10%.
